The University of Sierra Leone last Friday night organized a send-off reception for Professor J. A. S. Redwood Sawyer, ex Deputy Vice Chancellor of Fourah Bay College, Professor S. M. Gevao ex Provost COMAHS and Mr. E. T. Ngandi ex University Registrar. All these three were bade farewell by their former colleagues, and other well wishers who attended the program.

Although most of the speakers were absent, they were adequately represented by other members of staff from the constituent colleges, the acting Deputy Vice Chancellor at F. B. C. and the acting Deputy Vice Chancellor at IPAM.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone Professor Redwood Sawyer started off with an appreciation of the recognition of their contributions to the University and thanked God that he had served the institution diligently.

He noted that the reason why they were being recognized is was because of their dedicated and diligent service to the university explaining that he had served in various capacities during which times he noted, he faced many challenges.

He thanked Fourah Bay College for the many opportunities that the college provided to him, first as a student, then a lecturer and then principal. He disclosed that he was leaving the University for another engagement and thanked his colleagues for the support he received from them throughout these years. He encouraged all to come together to raise the profile of the university to an enviable height.

In his statement the Pro Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone, Modupeh Taylor Pearce described the day as “very important” as it is called to recognize and appreciate “genuine work”. He said it is always pleasing for someone’s genuine work to be appreciated genuinely, noting that it is these appreciations that that give motivation to other people to do more in their institutions and organizations.

Mr. Ngandi served the university for 40 years while Professor S. M. Gevao served the university for 4 years at COMAHS as the acting Provost.
