Ghana Electoral Commission has declared former president John Mahama as president-elect of Ghana. Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) defeated other presidential candidates that contested the 7 December, 2024 election. Chairperson of Ghana Electoral Commission Jean Mensa made the announcement on Monday 9 December, 2024. Former president Mahama, 65-years-old defeated his closest rival who also contested the election outgoing vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling party New Patriotic Party (NPP). Madam Mensa in her declaration says John Mahama of NDC have 6,328,397 which is 56.55% of the total valid votes cast while Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of NPP have 4,657,304 (41.61%). Dr. Bawumia conceded defeat immediately after a press conference he held conceding defeat on di provisional results from their internal tallies from their party which shows that presidential candidate of di NDC John Mahama have won the election. |
